Dream Visitation or Regular Dream; How to Tell the Difference

Have you ever dreamed of a loved one in heaven and woke up wondering, “Did I have a dream visitation or a regular dream?” Dreaming of a loved one in heaven, whether person or pet, is not only a very common occurrence, but is also very comforting.

Your deceased loved ones can and will visit you in your dreams. These type of dreams are known as ‘dream visitations’ and can provide you with a deep sense of inner peace, and relief that your loved one is okay.

But how can you tell the difference between a regular dream and a true dream visitation? Here’s how to find out . . .

Why do your loved ones visit you in dreams?

Your loved ones want to assure you that they are okay, and want to help ease the grieving process; and studies have shown that the majority of true dream visitations from your loved ones occur in what is known as “twilight” sleep. Twilight sleep is the period just prior to falling asleep and/or just prior to waking up.

When you are asleep the filters in your conscious mind shut off which means that it’s easier for your loved ones to communicate with you. Dream visitations from your loved ones in spirit are easy to identify. And while not all dreams of your deceased loved ones are true dream visitations there are eight telltale signs decipher a true visitation from a regular dream.

8 Characteristics of True Dream Visitations

True “dream visitations” are actually very easy to identify because they are very different than “everyday dreams.” Characteristics of most (but not all) dream visitations include the following:

• Characteristic #1: The most important characteristic of a true dream visitation is that it feels “real.” It will also be very vivid.

• Characteristic #2: If you have to ask whether the dream visitation was really a dream visitation, then it probably was NOT a dream visitation. They are so real and vivid that you won’t have to ask this question. When you do have a dream visitation, you may wonder if it was truly real; but in your heart or gut, you will “know” it was real.

• Characteristic #3: Because they are so real and so vivid, you will remember dream visitations very clearly for days, months, years . . . probably for your entire lifetime!

• Characteristic #4: The person (or animal) will almost always appear in the dream to be completely healthy and behaving in a loving manner. They will rarely appear sick or injured. They will never be angry, disappointed, depressed, or punishing. They will be “whole, complete, and perfect” because they are now reconnected with God/Source energy.

• Characteristic #5: Whether or not they speak to you verbally in the dream, they will communicate very clearly. (NOTE: As you’ll see in the next two examples, in neither of the dreams did actual verbal communication occur; the messages were conveyed telepathically and were completely clear.)

• Characteristic #6: When they do communicate (either verbally or non-verbally), it isn’t because they want to engage in idle “chit-chat.” It isn’t easy for deceased loves ones to enter a dream. They come with a purpose, and they will convey the message and then be gone.

• Characteristic #7: Most often, their messages fall into the category of “reassurance.” They come to let you know that they are fine and that they want you to be happy. Occasionally, they will come with a warning; however, when giving a warning, they will give you loving support and you will feel reassured by their presence.

• Characteristic #8: After a dream visitation, when you wake up, you will often be filled with a sense of peace and love.

Dream visitations by your loved ones are definitely like hugs and kisses from your loved ones in spirit from beyond, and are a wonderful way to help ease the pain of your loss. It is also a wonderful confirmation from heaven that your loved ones are still very active in your life, and that they still can show you how much they care about you.

  1. Yes Dar, this is so true…
I had a very vivid dream. My Mother was ill, and I carried her in my arms to the hospital. As I approached the emergency check-in, I explained to the lady that my Mom needed to see a Dr.
I felt a presence next to me. I turned to my right, and it was my brother who passed years before. He was beautiful and healthy. I pointed my finger and told him, “Not yet Leonard. I’m not ready”. He smiled, as though he understood, turned and walked away laughing. My Mom passed away a few months later. It was real, and there was no question I communicated with my brother . I know they are together. What a beautiful dream.

    1. Thank you for sharing your dream with all of us my dear friend. And yes . . . your Mom and Leonard are together on the other side! Love you my Earth Angel Sister and Friend! Blessings + Squishiest Hugs! xo
